About thirty years ago, a study was performed to see what color cars were most frequently in accidents.
The controversial results were NOT that a particular color CAUSES accidents, but that drivers who favor the color red in their cars are greater risk takers...and the personality that is drawn to read is involved in more accidents!
About the time when mercury vapor street lighting came into wide usage, it was noticed that it altered the appearance of some cars due to their color... and red cars were harder to see at night. With the advent of sodium vapor lights, this problem was greatly resolved, even though the color spectrum is shifted differently.
